HOW IT HAPPENED

From the beginning of the Sunshine State Conference matchup between the Sharks and Lions it was evident that a pitcher's duel was going to ensue, as both starting pitchers set down the respective sides in order in the first inning.

The game remained tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the third inning, when Alexis Smith scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryleigh Langwell. The Lions responded with their first run and first hit of the contest with an RBI single to left field, tying the game at 1-1.

Sharks starting pitcher, Ashley Connor kept the Lions from crossing the plate again through seven innings, giving NSU an opportunity to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh. The Sunshine State Conference series went into extra innings deadlocked at 1-1. In the top of the eighth inning, Langwell made a terrific catch at the warning track to keep the game tied at 1-1. Despite loading the bases in the bottom half of the inning, NSU was unable to push the winning run across and the game continued into the ninth.

In the top of the 10th inning, Saint Leo plated five runs, taking advantage of a Sharks error to take a 6-1 lead. NSU could not rally back in the bottom of the inning and dropped the series opener 6-1 to Saint Leo.
